If you are thinking of how to improve your ratings, get known and/or popular online, then blogging might be a good way to go about it.
As blogging and blog sites get more popular in Nigeria, jumping on the bandwagon could be of great help to you. Blogging will be especially useful if you are a small company as your budget might not be able to cater for the costs of online advertising and/or PR.
Just in case you doubt how valuable blogging is, then may be a little hint will help set the record straight. Do you know that blogspot.com, a free blogging website, is 7th most visited website in Nigeria and 20th in the world? While wordpress.com, another free blog website is the 40th in the whole world. Yes, many blogs are news, junks or gossip curation and sharing avenues. But then there is nothing stopping you from using Nigeria's fast growing blog culture to your advantage.
If I want a tax consultant, one of the first things I would do is to ask around. Another option at my disposal will be to do a quick online search. Imagine if a tax consultant somewhere has been blogging about tax laws and processes in Nigeria all along, don't you think the person might be gaining a new client by just writing about what he or she does for a living.
Also if you get recommended to someone for professional reasons, and the person decides to google your name, a series of posts by you would go a long way to give you some credibility even before the person meets you.
There are quite a number of other reasons I would love to list but let me give you a few tips on how to start your blogging career.
- Decide on an action plan and have a clear goal of what you want to achieve.
- Be ready to give a lot of free stuffs and quality advice for free.
- You can get a free blogging site on blogspot.com or wordpress.com. Or you can own your own domain name and web hosting.
- Get a good theme/template from Templateify (if you chose blogspot) or Creative Market.
- Make sure your website is responsive or has a mobile version. Else, you may lose more than have of your prospective clients if your site gives a horrible experience for people checking it from a mobile device.
I must however inform you that blogging might involve you doing a great deal of work especially at start. But having a good blog is not rocket science.
If you need tutorials our courses on how to be a better blogger, you can check out great courses on Udemy. They have about 14 courses for beginners and 6 for intermediate level at the moment.
